Are You Looking for the BEST Kids Art Activity Ideas for Family Connection that will explore the depths of their imaginations and spark creativity? Artastic Kids is not your ordinary kids art website. We do things differently here and take creative thinking and art making to the next level to capture your child's interests and imagination to make them LOVE Art. Let's dive in on 5 of the BEST Kids Art Activity Ideas for Family Connection.

Create a Monster

The first art activity that your kids can create in your home is a Monster! Give your kids some paper and 2-3 art mediums and let them create their own monster. Aske them to think about what texture it is, the shape, if it has any patterns, what it is wearing, if it has arms, tentacles, or wings. Pick their brains and get them fired up about creating. If you really want to spark creativity, you can watch a monster themed Movie first (Like Monsters Inc.) then create this and turn it into an at-home adventure with all the activities building family connection and encouraging more family time together.

Draw a Fruit Still Life with a Twist

Grab some fruit. Cut up some and place it into a shape of a face on some plates for a silly snack and then set up some fruit on a plate in the center of your kitchen table and invite you kids over. Let them eat their silly snack (this doubles as a hook to spark creativity) and after they're done and wash their hands, put out paper and some art making mediums. If you have oil pastels, use those as they'll be great for blending colors and developing high lights and shadows.

Now, ask your kids to draw the Fruit Still Life in front of them and make an artwork... with a twist of course!  Not only should they try to capture the likeness of the fruit, but they need to add some artist flavor to it by adding a Face to the Fruit in their artwork. How fun and silly is this?

Underwater Creatures Resist Painting

Have your kids create some underwater resist paintings. This is a fun art project that only requires watercolor paints, resist art medium to draw with (such as wax crayons or oil pastels), thicker paper like card stock, and some kitchen salt (yup!).

First, head onto Pexels.com and find Creative Commons images of Underwater Creatures or Animals. Have your kids pick a picture and use it as a reference image for their artworks. Next, have your kids draw the animal with the wax crayon or oil pastels. They can color it in as much or little as they want.

Once they're done with the drawing part, pull out the watercolor paints and paint the remaining areas and the surrounding water. Now, before it dries (must be wet for this), sprinkle salt onto the wet paint.

Once it is dry, rub off the salt and you will see a beautiful artwork with resist painting techniques and the effects where the salt dried.

Postcards from their Imaginations

For this art activity, cut up paper into smaller, 5x7" or postcard sized papers. Alternatively, you can find and print off postcard templates off the web. Next, set up your kitchen table with 2-3 art mediums and magazines or newspapers.

Have your kids cut out one thing they like from a magazine page or newspaper page that will fit onto the front of their postcard and have them glue it down.

Next, have them illustrate their imagination and what it looks like. What do they see in their imagination? What do they visualize? What is swirling around in their minds?

Scrap Paper Collage

This one is lovely too. Grab all that scrap paper, old wrapping paper and more and find a picture of a landscape or animal on Pexels.com that they want to make as a collage. Next, have them try and cut paper and glue and layer and assemble it into that animal or landscape. Cut out each of the elements with the scrap paper and glue it together to create a beautiful collage. You can even bring in Henri Matisse as inspiration for their artworks.
